Counseling is more helpful when you feel comfortable with and understood by your therapist. This is why we offer a free brief phone consultation for all potential new clients. As with all relationships, not everyone is compatible. This consultation will help you know whether our style and skills are a good fit for your particular goals.
We pride ourselves on our efforts to be supportive allies to members of marginalized communities. We work hard to understand your life experiences in a larger cultural context, being willing to explore the ways in which we may be different to ensure that these differences don't blind us to your reality.
We are not members of any health insurance plans because we strongly value confidentiality and autonomy. Insurance companies often require details about your mental health and treatment and often determine the type and length of mental health care you receive. We are not willing to compromise your privacy or care by sharing this information with the staff of insurance companies. However, we will support you should you decide to seek reimbursement from your insurer by providing you with documentation that you can file upon request.
We are knowledgeable on empirically-validated treatments and use these, along with researched measures of change to track progress. We also employ psychological assessment to clarify concerns where needed. We actively track progress by seeking feedback from you about what is going well and what is not working in counseling.
Life is a journey of rocky and winding roads with daily stressors, transitions, hopelessness, pain, grief, and loss. Often, we feel as if we are traveling alone. As a fellow traveler, I am committed to embarking on this journey with you. I provide a safe, warm, and non-judgmental environment using a multicultural lens that allows me to customize therapy to meet your needs. I see you and meet you exactly where you are, and with whatever you bring.
Together, we will explore the painful and overwhelming thoughts and emotions that prevent you from living a full and meaningful life. We will collaborate to establish and achieve goals to enhance your mind, body, and spirit. You can be well, healthy, and whole.

As a psychologist, my approach to therapy is active, direct and authentic. I provide and solicit lots of feedback as a part of therapy. I utilize psychological testing to develop a treatment plan as well as to track progress.
I have worked with individuals from all walks of life from college students to individuals coping with severe mental illness. I have worked with people who struggle with depression, anxiety, relationships, life transitions (e.g., career, parenting, divorce, etc.), self harm behaviors and recovery from trauma.
To become a Psychologist, I spent 5 years completing coursework and providing over 1,200 therapy sessions while supervised via audio recording as well as live observation. I graduated in 2007 with a doctoral degree in clinical psychology (PhD) from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Next, I completed an APA accredited internship at the University of Utah Counseling Center where I conducted another 1500 therapy sessions while supervised via video recordings. Finally, I finished a 2,000 hour post-doctoral residency at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee.
I currently serve as an officer for the Capital Chapter of the Florida Psychological Association. I am also a member of the American Psychological Association. I am in the process of applying for my Certified Group Psychotherapist designation from the American Group Psychotherapy Association.
I am able to see clients in-person in the Tallahassee area and online for anyone in most states as a PsyPact member (https://psypact.org/mpage/psypactmap)
